  He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the area, the island and the walk and went out of his way to ensure we had the best experience we could. He advised us as to where we could find drinking water, swimming holes and gave us advice on when to cross the tidal rivers.

  We travelled with Absolute North in September when we walked the Thorsborne track on Hinchenbrook Island. We had such a fabulous experience with this well run local company starting the moment we met John and got on his boat.

  John took me from Cardwell to Lucinda to transfer me on Hinchinbrook the day after. He explained me everything necessary for the trek and more. The day to come back to Lucinda from the Island, he came with his boat at time like we said before to start the trek. Perfect organisation with the tides and everything. Thank you John, see you !

  In reference to the previous one star rating and review, it appears to me that perhaps that customer has misinterpreted John’s concern for the validity of their permits and maybe even safety/understanding. Honestly, John came across as a very genuine person. As John himself is the business owner and very passionate about the region, I believe he would not hesitate to go out of his way to ensure your highest safety and enjoyment of the entire experience; just as he did for us. Brilliant customer service.

  Highly recommended! John has been very helpful with his incredible local knowledge. He was very flexible and truly cared about the people he transported. As I was a sole hiker doing the hike in 2 nights, he kept a close eye on me.. and also other hikers. He actually went back to a campsite further north just to ensure a couple travelling with a child was safe. At the end of my hike, people travelling with another company was left stranded, waiting, with no good idea of their pick up time etc. John from Absolute North Charters was very well organised and very accomodating. He HAS hiked the place and KNOW it really well. He will give you great advice and keep the info channels open (such as active water source, as the maps aren't reliable) for all hikers. Thumbs up. Only good things to say. No questions here, Use him.

  A wealth of local knowledge and passion for the island; he ensured we were sufficiently prepared and that we understood the weather, precautions we would need to take, points of phone reception, tidal times, ideal camping areas, options of pick up points etc. I honestly think without his advice, the Thorsborne Trail would not have been even half the amazing experience it was.
